Bob Scott Talks about the VAR Market

Bob Scott delivered a presentation on the VAR market. Presented below are some of the comments made by Mr. Scott which you may find interesting:
 
    1. Great Plains is not easy to work with anymore (translation – Great Plains doesn’t bend over backwards to communicate with him).
    2. “Sometimes I meet with Great Plains and Microsoft personnel at the same time, and I have a feeling that they are not headed in the same direction”.
    3. “There has not been much Solomon advertising”. Solomon resellers seem to feel neglected”
    4. “Best Software is more organized than they were a year and a half ago.”
    5. “Best Software is cross selling products to existing clients”.
    6. “Best Enterprise Suite” has been renamed “MAS 500”
    7. Peachtree Software is expected to release a high-end version of Peachtree Complete Accounting this Fall which is presently code named Turbo.
    8. “Exact Software’s resellers are worried”
    9. “Since 1990, Macola’s VARs have declined from 600 to 200.”
    10. “Jim Kent who is located in Boston, is now seems to be spear-heading the restructuring effort and has indicated that the company wants to trim down to 100 VARs”
    11. “Exact is closing most of it’s Marion, Ohio operations and is in the process of creating 15 locations throughout the US.”
    12. “Intuit has purchased several companies with reseller channels including Blue Ocean, Master Builder, and American Fundware.” This signals a stark change for Intuit which has previously concentrated on retail channels.”
    13. “Intuit also purchased Eclipse Software, and product that sells for $75,000 to $250,000 – also a stark change for Intuit which has previously sold low cost products.”
    14. “Intuit claims to have 9,000 certified consultants”
    15. “Steve Blundell is the man at Intuit who is doing all the buying for Intuit”.
    16. “Softline has undergone four leadership changes in recent years, and appears to be settled now with Murray Aston as President.”
    17. “Epicor competes against their own reseller’s – they are strictly business and their resellers better watch their backs”
